Shirley Levi is a singer, songwriter and activist living in Los Angeles. She is also a self-taught musician who wrote and produced her debut album "Break Free". She also remixes her own music under the pseudonym DJ SFL, which has helped her gain respect amongst DJs and spread her music onto dance floors worldwide. Shirley Levi’s music is a blend of Pop, Rock, Folk, Electronic/Dance, Adult Contemporary and World Music. Usually blending all of these styles together would be an obstacle for most performers, but Shirley has managed do this in such an artful way that it has turned out to be her calling card: Flawlessly blending many styles into one. In addition, "Your Eyes" has also been remixed by one of Miami's top DJ's, Zedek Djah and is available on iTunes. Shirley Levi's music is also being played on radio and internet stations around the globe through her exclusive DjXpress which she created to help spread her music to djs worldwide.

Shirley wrote, directed, produced and edited the video for "Your Eyes" by herself. Her video is currently playing in Canada's top electronic/dance cable tv station, which is based on requests called, "Back @ Ya". Shirley was also chosen as top female music video director who "thinks out of the box" to shoot a pilot for VH1.

I came out of my mother's womb knowing I was supposed to make music, sing and perform. I knew this before I knew how to speak. I started playing music by teaching myself how to play guitar and, even though I knew very little English, I began composing lyrics and melodies at the age of ten. My parents moved our family to America just as I entered the first grade. I feel blessed to have started my life in the U.S. English became my first language and means of expression, but my ethnic background still roams in my blood. Shirley moved to the US when she was five and had to overcome many social and cultural obstacles because she did not speak the language. She taught herself how to paint and to write, produce and perform music and began to realize that the things that made her different were actually her strengths, not her weaknesses. After experimenting in the San Diego underground music circuit with DJs, eclectic musicians and participating in spontaneous live performances, Shirley moved to Los Angeles, and began making her mark around town by performing sold out shows at venues such as the The Opium Den, The Knitting Factory, and House of Blues.

My album Break Free contains inspirational lyrics for anyone who is following their dream. The entire album represents just that. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF FIRST and see your vision through. I gave birth to my songs unconsciously in that I was just expressing what was going on inside me for survival and then realized once the album was completed and recorded that they are all about my struggles and quest to be heard; To move the vision of myself forward into reality. I had so many faithless influences, which as I look back at in retrospect served as G-d's intention to make me fight as hard as I could.
